I have not been making this as often as I was recently, so last weekend MIL "reminded" me to do it...
Sometimes I like to blend everything--soy beans plus pandan (screw-pine) leaves together. I would get green soy bean milk this way. But as the soy milk cools downs the colour would turn to yellowish green then to yellowish white, as you can see here and also the picture at the top
See? The light green colour which I like:
The method is still the very normal way we usually use to make soy milk, the only difference is I blended all the pandan leaves together. Although my blender doesn't need me to sieve the milk but I still sieve it through a muslin bag as I could still taste some very fine meal inside.
How much water being used is subjective to how thick/thin you want the milk to be. I like my soy milk to be thick, so I usually use 3 cups of water to 1cup of soy beans(soaked)...maybe a little more when I give the meal a second squeeze.
I'm really not an expert when it comes to anything in the kitchen, so you can refer to Wendy or Food-4tots for more explanations. :P

since i can get a good and fresh soy bean from the nearby market daily, so I seldom make this by myself.
I like pandan flavour in my soya milk. I used to make it every 2 days but now I'm too lazy. It's good to make your own. No additives added.
Nice idea to get the pandan blended in together.
I like how green it looked.
Eh, this must be yummy when made into jelly :)
Sonia,
There's a mini truck which passes my house every Monday and thursday which sells fresh soy milk. But my in-laws insisted that all soy milk sold outside will have some kind of additive added...plus I've bought such an expensive blender, so no matter what I'll have to use it lah... ;P
Busygran,
Wow, every 2days? That's very frequent! I'm too lazy to dat lah! The main reason I like about homemade soy is I can make it super thick which usually we won't get outside.
Wendy,
I don't know whether it is all in the mind or not, but somehow I find the milk to be more fragrant when the pandan is blended together.
I've never use homemade soy milk to make jelly before leh...I bought soy milk 2 or 3 times to make jelly. Ya hor...I remembered there was once my MIL soaked too much soy beans for me...Aiyah, I should have made some jelly out of it...! Thanks, next time I'll know what to do!
I still haven't try my hands on soy milk making yet. And what a great idea to blend pandan leaves with the beans!
Blessed Homemaker,
You are so good in cooking + baking and you haven't try this? Try lah, I find blending the pandan together makes it more fragrant.
I had stopped making soy milk now because my blender gave me problem when grinding the soy beans. :( Love your idea using the pandan leaves. Will try it out if I buy a new blender. ;)
oh wow i really would love to try this! maybe soya milk with strawberry??
Food 4tots,
If I'm to buy my next blender, I might buy one with a glass jug so that I can pour hot water in it.
Wen Pink,
Hey, strawberry soy milk is a good idea!! Please do so and tell how it goes!
never tried it before but my dad drinks this a lot!
Mr.pineapple man,
Wa, then I heard that you'll have to remove the skin of the beans coz that's no good for old ppl with uric acid and joint problems leh...try make some lah...
wow....nice colour...
i also think to buy that blender...i heard is very good..
Hey, I'd cook my soy milk together with pandan leaves but just never thought of blending them together. I used to make soy milk when I was in the States. Even attempted to make tau foo fah!
So far, my favorite variation aside from the regular one is black sesame soy milk.
P.S. Haiya! You're just being humble nia ... You're also one kitchen goddess!!
Pei-Lin,
Black sesame soy? OK,OK, I'll try it some day...wah, must be very fragrant! I'll try to find some recipes online on how to make 1st... Your blog is one of the place I'm going to savage, hahaha...
So as you can see I'm really a novice la when it comes to cooking, although not to the extend of being an idiot...but compared to a lots of you bloggers, I'm near to that. Haha!
Hi Mel, how U been?
WOW homemade soy drink! Simply love it ya! Never tried doing it myself...should try one day...;)
Love,
Try lah...if you like very-very thick soy milk...outside sure cannot get. If not I feel no need lah...here in Klang very easy we can buy fresh ones.
I haven't had homemade soy milk for such a long time. Maybe 10 years I'd say. I've never had pandan soy milk although I can imagine how fragrant it'd be.
Never try this before *blush* Always procrastinate and totally forgot about it. Maybe also because it's so easily available so I always end up with store bought ones :P
Rosebelle,
I'd say unless you like it different from those bought ones...if not they are quite a hassle to make some times.
Blessed Homemaker,
Yeah, actually this is so easily available...it's my MIL who's always pushing me to make this...I'd say 7 or 8 out of 10 times... :P
Hahaha. you are like me. Always referring to Wendy in my posts. ;)
Ronni,
LOL...yeah, almost all the recipes that I try are from her...and actually she's the one who lured me into blogging too! :)
Hi Mel,
You've been quiet. I hope you had a wonderful Chinese New Year celebration and all the best wishes on this Rabbit Year....Roz
Meldy, what a great idea to add pandan flavor to soya bean milk. I can imagine the fragrance added to the drink.
HomeKreation,
Thnaks!! Really busy nowadays la... absolutely marvel at you ppl who can work n blog plus jaga family at the same time!!
Quay Po,
Thanks! I thought it's quite common to add the leaves while boiling the soya milk...but i blended it together with the beans to get green soymilk. ;P
Happy New Year! Been busy huh? No more blog update...
Wow...you made soymilk yourself...!! Thumbs up!
BH:
:P ...so embarrassing la...
I've started working again, so tied up that i can only manage to visit blogs but not update my own...
CG:
My MIL doesn't like those sold outside, so she'll often ask me to make it. Something malaysians do quite often, I think.
I understand. I'm not working but already, I'm also struggling with blogging. Hope to see some updates from you soon. In the mean time, take care!
Hey Mel, how you been? Are you working now? Stay in Touch ya ;)
Hi Meldylocks, It has been while since I last visited, hope you and your three bears are doing well!
