Champagne Grapes

Last weekend, when we were browsing through Jusco's shelves, Little Bear had his eyes laid on some very cute "baby grapes".  So, I bought some because he was pestering and also I was curious about how Champagne grapes taste like.

It was SUPER DUPER EXPENSIVE!!  RM16.90 for 1 pound (which was not even a Kg)!!   I don't think I'm going buy this again...not even if Little Bear tears down the whole Jusco with his screams...!

The grapes were quite sweet (though there were a few sour ones) with softer and thinner skins than regular grapes.  I think Little Bear wanted to buy them just because the grapes looked cute...although he was very excited to try them but he stopped after eating a small bunch. I admit that it was quite tiring to pick the tiny grapes one by one and to pop them into one's mouth...but it was nice to feed them to Baby Bear because I didn't have to worry about him choking on the seeds or bigger pieces of flesh. Plus that little fella enjoyed them too!

Little Bear trying to pinch some grapes while I was trying to photograph them. I noticed that bloggers with small kids have this problem...sigh!   :P

Eh, these grapes are out oredi ah?
Great!!! I love these.
But sometimes, got spider webs among the tight grape clusters, and they tend to mould if not kept properly.

don't be so sui la, don't let ur kids see, then no need to make them tear the roof down, ahaha!!

Yah! These grapes cost a bomb! I don't really fancy them. I prefer those crunchy turgid ones.

Wendy,
Actually hor, I saw them on the shelves one week before last already...the price la, it made me hesitant on whether to buy or not.
ES is really difficult at times la, if you have an active son you'll understand. But I can see that he's a lot more mature since he started school. So, I tell myself to be patient for the "terrible-two, horrible three" phase to be over!

busygran,
Yup, me too. And i prefer seedless to seeded.

The champagne grapes we have here are much smaller, so tiny that you can't even taste it when you bite into it. I only bought it once but never again, still prefer the normal seedless grapes.

Same here...I thought they are super sweet...anyway, I'm not going to buy them again.

I saw these grapes at Jusco (Taman Maluri punya) too! Agreed, terlalu mahal! So hor, I ended up not buying them. Still with my good ol' fave seedless grapes. Yummo!

Haha! I noticed that "kids-picking-my-photo-objects" issue in other mommies' blogs. HAHA! Thank goodness I don't have to deal with this now. =P

Melody, you've been missed! Who told you to a few hours down south!!?? HAHA! Next time hor, have to pull you in hard-hard to yak and shop with us! HAHA! It's a marathon. Can tahan? Maybe can be like Wendy, "chuck away" the kids for those few hours to enjoy some freedom. HAHA!

Hope to see you soon!

Pei-Lin,
Oh, Jusco Maluri...I used to shop there when I was staying near Tung Shin...sigh...miss my days in KL la...

When I was 20+ I shop from the supermarkets open til they close shop...and I bought nothing!!! But now I have to lug at least one kid along...coz my hub's no good with kids (esp couldn't control the elder one) plus I'm still breastfeeding my younger one...and I'm staying with my in-laws...so you see...I'm not as lucky/free as Wendy...sigh...

But I really am looking forward to meet you all one day...we'll see about that!!!

I'm not a grape person but I had these champagne grapes a couple of times before. They were very sweet. Are grapes typically expensive in your country? They're pretty cheap over here. The tropical fruits are expensive instead..durian, dragonfruits, coconuts, lychees, so on.

Rosebelle,
Oh yes, grapes are quite expensive...I think it's due to the exchange rate. These champagne grapes are not super sweet like I expected, only so-so. So I guess we should consume fruits local to our area to avoid paying so much for imported ones.

Pei-Lin,
Belated 中秋节快乐!! So sorry la, I din see your msg til today...you see I went back to my mother's for almost a week to discuss about my brother's wedding...so I was out of touch with the cyber world for 4-5 days!!!

So good to be back!!!

Why so expensive? Last week, Singapore's NTUC was selling it for 0.39/100g!! Less than 10ringgit per kg! Day light robbery!

Hi Mel,
It has been a while since Hari Raya & miss everyone including you. Poor me, have not seen such grapes... afterall I don't really fancy grapes & rarely bought them.

Meldylocks and Her Three Bears said...

Shirley,
So cheap in S'pore? That's why I've always suspected that imported fruits are cheaper there...those blueberries, peaches, etc...anyway, don't think I'm going to buy them again...at least not here!

HomeKreation,
Hey, Selamat Hari Raya! Everybody's still in the raya-mood, rite? I've noticed that you've slowed down a bit on blogging, that's understandable la... Raya mah...but I did miss you posting goodies. Good to see you back!
You can give those grapes a miss la, didn't taste as good as its name. But the texture's good, "finer" than regular grapes.

I think its something like 2.2 lbs = 1 kg, so expensive. But they are very cute.
The photos of your little bear trying to pinch some grapes are so cute! At least he wants healthy things :)
